My Street Photography to be seen in 50 years time

Lisboa Tejo e Tudo

My Photography was major influenced by a book of Victor Palla and Costa Martins called "Lisboa Cidade Triste e Alegre" (Lisboa Tejo e tudo) which i have 2 editions the original and the re-edition of the 50 years. I remember the first time i saw this book i was fascinated by the pictures and the way they saw Lisboa and read the descriptions of the pictures and was like almost i was with them when they took them. Even this blog is influenced by those texts.

Vacation Pictures 2015 Part 1

This next pictures were some of the one i took last year when i was on vacation in Viana do Castelo. Viana is an amazing city perhaps the cleanest city in Portugal where the flowers in the street vessels are change perhaps weekly.

Another view

Since im at the studio terrace i will post the main view of the terrace its the Lisbon Airport i remember when i was a child going to the Airport bar on a terrace over the runway was a magical place that place no longer exists but i was lucky that my studio also has a view over the airport runway.

My First Picture

Of course isn't my first picture i started to take pictures in a more serious way when i attend Ar.Co. in 1983 when i made my Photography course. But it is the first picture i took with the Sigma DP2 Merrill its one of the view from my studio terrace and i was blown by the dept of planes and the sharpness of the lens also the way it made black&white like an old film camera.

Cascais

Late afternoon in the balcony of a bar i used to go often over the Cascais bay, a few years ago i had a convertible and i loved to cruise the ocean drive from Lisboa to Cascais i do it often and always end at this bar for beer and a view.

Almendres Cromlech

Following the last post in the same day trip i arrived early so i could go to Almendres Cromlech that a few years ago i had photograph when i made a guide of Alentejo. So this next two pictures were taken there is has something magical about it i think must be the same sensation like when you visit Stonehenge. Is a strange place those structures are there for more then 6000 years.

Temple of Diana

Last year i went Évora for a day trip to visit an Gin distillery where i learn to make Gin and in the late afternoon i went to revisit the temple of Diana i always was fascinated with this temple like going to an Asterix adventure i feel that since i was kid.

Summer is almost over

Yesterday i went to photograph in downtown and somehow i felt this were the last days of summer i really hate this feeling, end of summer always make me feel i have to wait another six months. By the way i don't know what this sign is doing there breaking the landscape of one of the most beautiful views of the river. Culture is important and the lack of it appear like this in the most strange places.

Terreiro do Paço

Lisbon has became a paradise for the tourists with cruises every single day today´s afternoon one was leaving and i shoot it in Terreiro do Paço.

In Front of Tower Of Belém

Some places are like a fetish to me i like to go there often and again the Tower Of Belém is one of them in Viana do Castelo where i usually go every year is Santa Luzia i never get tired of shooting in those place since they are so rich of subject this one is another of a big series that my friends at Facebook probably are tired of seeing but its the first one i post here at the blog.

Vila Nova de Cerveira

This last week the sculptor José Rodrigues passed away he was one of the founders of Vila Nova de Cerveira Bienal of Arts last year i went to Cerveira where i took this picture and visit his museum that was in a Monastry near by that belong to José Rodrigues so this is a special tribute to the artist.

Near the Tower of Belém

Since last picture was the Padrão dos Descobrimentos made sense to me to post one of the many Torre de Belém pictures i have since is almost like a fetish place for me to photograph marks the place where the Portuguese departure to find world and yes we get almost everywhere it was a late afternoon and has in many of my pictures i shoot against the sun.

The Padrão dos Descobrimentos is the one of most iconic Monuments in Lisbon it was built for the 1940 Portuguese world Fair by the architect Conttinelli Telmo and by the sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida its an impressive work

Lunar Rocks

Sometimes you find a landscape that makes you feel you are in a different planet that happened to me in Afife in the North of Portugal last year where i found this rock formation at the beach

Winter beach

I always liked to go to the beach in the winter its like sailing people sail in the summer but the best sailing is always in the winter nature takes the ocean just to herself that took me to Praia Grande where i took this picture and i took the all beach to myself.

Light&Shadow

Has i was walking in the streets of Faro in the Algarve i noticed this light design on the pavement made by the shadow of gate on the floor since the street was on shadow this worked almost like a spotlight

The Sky is the limit

This Spring i was teaching a fashion course at the Algarve in the south of Portugal i stayed in a wonderful place the St Francisco Convent , one late afternoon i found this amazing sky over the trees at St Francisco square where the hotel was located and i usually don't do cliches but i couldn't resist and i took a panorama of the sky above the trees it was hand held but it blended well.

People in my Photography

So far in this first pictures i posted there isn't much of a human presence in them but has i go post along this will appear since people is of the subject im most fond about so in this two last posts they started to appear still in a shy way.

In this picture i exposed for the highlights what create this high contrast between the highlights and the shadows also the negative space in the shadows almost like a beam of light to lite the subject.

The Portuguese Pavement

The main subject of this picture is the Portuguese pavement so typical in our cities, you can also see it in Copacabana Rio de Janeiro Brasil and other places where the Portuguese have been. although thats the main subject i also captivated how the backlight lite it so i stood and waited for the subject to came on frame.

This was taken very early in the morning has i was going to School to teach a photography class i always like to be there at least 30 min early so i get a free time to enjoy the morning light.
